Welcome to my Air India review, This was an unexpected journey with Air India after the Jet Airways debacle.

I had booked my ticket, on the day of the flight, just  before leaving Mumbai for Delhi (the scenic route, via Jodhpur). I found using the Air India website a difficult process it was, dated and hard to navigate . After I did find my way  around the booking process, the website would not let me use my International credit card to book the flight. I then had to resort to using a UK based website to book the flight at a premium to the Air India price.

Air India Ground Staff

Air India check-in at Delhi airport was a breeze, I flagged to a team member that I only had a short time till my flight and was taken straight to the front and the process was very quick, after this the same team member fast-tracked me to security and straight to the gate by a buggy. A few minutes before the gate closed, I was quite surprised thy accepted me checking in so close to departure and my hold luggage too. The express service straight to the gate was just what I needed after an awful day in airports, upon boarding the flight we incurred a 47 minute delay due to the adverse weather in Delhi.

A traditional greeting at boarding…..

On Board

Air India have a reputation for having old/dated planes and it lived up to its reputation, however they do have a better fleet on international routes with new Boeing 787-8 dreamliners and some shortrange A320 Neos for domestic flights being delivered to replace its ageing domestic fleet soon soon. Being completely honest, att this point I wasn’t too fussed about how old the plane was, I just needed to get to my destination as it had been a long day. The flight was only one hour, and just like Jet Airways the crew managed a meal and drinks service. The crew were great at dealing with all passengers, and 3 people managing to feed and clear up after 200 people in an hour was certainly a surprise.

Conclusion

Given the short flight and the fact I was zoned out during it due to the stressful day (refer to Jet Airways rant…). I don’t have too much to say, unlike Jet Airways they managed to get me to my destination without too much of a delay. My Nan uses Air India for her direct flights from London to our home state of Gujarat and is happy enough with the service – I may just try them out on an international flight, probably in business given how poor the seat pitch was! I hope you enjoyed this short Air India Review and “normal” service resumes in my next few Airline reviews. Air India Review
